Scar revision

The healing process of surgical, traumatic, or burn wounds results in scar formation. Sometimes, the final form of the scar can be hard to accept due to its extent, width, thickness, or distortion of the surrounding tissues. So far, medicine cannot remove a scar completely; however, various plastic surgery techniques offer a chance to improve its appearance, making it less visible, subtle, and more aesthetically acceptable.

The procedure involves removing the old scar and creating a new one in such a way that it becomes less visible after the wound heals and does not cause dysfunction in the area (e.g., painful contraction).

Scar correction procedures are performed under local anesthesia. Immediately after the surgery, one can go home. Depending on the surgical technique, type, and location of the scar, absorbable sutures that do not need to be removed are used, or non-absorbable sutures, which require removal between 7 to 14 days after the procedure.

After the wound has healed, it’s recommended to massage the scar appropriately, use silicone gels, and avoid UV radiation for a minimum of 6 months. Such measures accelerate the maturation of the scar and ensure a good treatment outcome.
